Because each customer's needs for derived points is different from any other's, there are few specifics about this application. Instead, a general description is provided to indicate the niche filled by this process.
PICSCompute is designed to produce one (or more) values (as new data points) based on one (or more input point values (and/or statuses). For example, one could compute the difference between an in-flow and out-flow temperature. Since PICSCompute's actual conversions are coded on a per-customer basis, anything (within the limits of the computing platform being used) is possible. There may also be more than one PICSCompute application, spread across multiple nodes to distribute the computational load.
