The PICS MMI is a container application that loads whatever PICS MMI Applets (*.pma) it can find installed in its home folder. The container provides a standard interface to the PICS system, and the applets provide interactive features to end-users. The actual applications loaded at run time are determined first by what is installed on the computer, and second by the security access level of the currently logged in user. Because of this fact, one of the menus cannot be fully documented because it is generated on-the-fly based on the applets loaded and services they provide.
The basic PICS MMI container window is shown below (with an open point trend applet).

The Launch menu contains a list of applet services available to the current user. When PICS MMI is executed on a trusted node (one of the configured PICS subsystems) full access is automatically granted. When run on WAN client nodes (with ACC), then the current user's access level is used to determine which applets will be available. Between the Launch and Window menu items is a slot used by the currently focused applet, in this case a point trend. This allows applets to offer access to custom features through the container program's menu, freeing up valuable screen space for more important data. The common Window menu is also here, allowing you to organize all open child windows, and also to select a new active window. Note that this menu doesn't affect applets that render within free-floating dialogs, only child window applets (like point display and trend).
The primary function of this applet is to provide an easy to use interface for common operator tasks, such as taking points on/off scan and on/off alarm monitoring. This is a three step process, first a point is selected, then the point control dialog is displayed, showing the current values of the various settings. When the operator has verified that the correct point was selected, and that something requires a change, pressing the Change button allows the operator to make changes as needed. After the changes are made (by pressing Commit or not made by pressing Cancel), another point may be selected, or the point selection may be dismissed.
